Nashville, TN, June 22, 2020 — Dan Coen is a National Champion ballroom dancer. He has competed in dozens of competitions all over the country since taking up ballroom dancing 11 years ago, at the age of 83. That’s right, Dan is a ballroom dancing champion at 94 years-old.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, within the next 10 years, one in every five U.S. residents will reach retirement age. Dan’s most recent competition was in March in Las Vegas, where he placed first in nearly every category in which he participated, including in his favorite dance style, West Coast Swing. Dan has also competed and took home top honors in his class in Nashville’s Music City Invitational for the past several years.
A retired aeronautical engineer, Dan worked at Gate Learjet for 10 years. After he and his wife welcomed a baby that passed away during infancy, they decided it was time to make a change, and Dan began his career at Avions Marcel Dassault. He became the North American President of Engineering and collected an impressive portfolio of engineering projects with jets still in use today. After Dan’s wife died in 2005, his eight children and 18 grandchildren encouraged him to find a new hobby to remain active. Four years later, he took his first ballroom dancing class. In 2012, he was certified as an official Bronze Member.
